"Further research focused on augmented nano weapons was conducted on subjects from project Titan, giving rise to this terrible instrument of war. Dread is a formidable foe, spreading fear into the hearts of human soldiers all over the world.'' - in-game description |
Dread is the first male mutant character in CrossFire, playable in Mutation Mode.
Overview[]
Dread is a red mutant that armed with a pair of metal claws, which is the Nano Knife. The primary gives off a fast slash and the secondary attack gives an "X" pattern slash, both attacks are extremely fast compared to the Slug. Dread also has a default ability of Speed Boost at any level of mutation, but with all the ups of this mutant, it receives a much further knock-back than all other mutants which makes it much easier to pin the Dread to a corner. Dread is also extremely dangerous when it equips Nano Hook, as it has extremely fast attack speed along with fast movement speed can be seen as a threat to soldiers.
Skill[]
The more the Dread gets powerful, the more agile it becomes. The [G Skill] has a temporary Spped Boost, which makes him run faster. The skill can be a bigger threat and capable to be the hard-carry for the Mutants.
Additionally, the skill can also help him reduce taken damage, howeveer.
Trivia[]
General[]
- On September 2024 update in CF China, Dread's Speed Boost skill can also reduce taken damage.
Dread 1.0[]
- In the early/beta version of Dread, it shares the same HUD with SWAT on the BL side. It was later changed with a unique one (with SWAT on the GR side's contaminated gloves). They also have a slightly different character model (see screenshots and videos below).
- Dread is the default mutant in all versions while this is not the case in CF West as Slug is in its place instead. In CF West, it costs 1200 ZP to rent the Dread for 7 days or as junk prize in various Black Market crate for 7 days as well.
- In CF China, Dread has a slow slash attack, similar to Slug, while other CrossFire versions feature faster slash attack. This makes Dread very dangerous in Hero Mode X onwards, where they can easily drain all heroes' HP in a few seconds.
- However, in other CrossFire versions, Dread features fast slash attack at Normal/Berserk but slow slash attack at Titan level, seemingly making it less effective when reaching Titan level.
- In Occupation Knife Mode, Dread in this mode has slow slash attack compared to Mutation Mode.
- Strangely, after some update patches, the Berserk Dread "wing" was removed for unknown reason. It was can only be seen on the Titan Dread or on some official artworks. CF Russia was the only version that didn't remove the "wing" of Berserk Dread.
- In CF China and CF Japan, Dread is called (Red) Biochemical Ghosts, or simply just called Ghosts, as they've never been given their own unique name up to now. This is because at the first time when Mutation Mode released in CF China, only Dread is available and thus, giving them a unique name is unnecessary at that time.
- For the same reason, Dread is called Zombie in CF Vietnam, CF Philippines and CF Indonesia by default (although Dread in Zombie Mode is called Reaper in CF Philippines). CF Russia also called them as Mutant by default.
Dread 2.0[]
- Even though the Dread 2.0 has three claws, when the user scratches on any surface, it will still show two claw marks instead of three like the old Dread. Also, there's no new HUD icon for the new Nano Knife, so it uses the old HUD icon. It also still shares the same health bar icon as the old Dread.
- Strangely, while these problems had been corrected on the CrossFire Zero, the original CrossFire still haven't fixed them yet.
- The old Dread version still can be seen in Zombie Mode, but with new claws equipped on some variants (some still use their old claws).
- Also, in CF West, the Dread icon on the Mutant selection screen still shows the old Dread model.
- Again, in CF West, this is the only version has more HP at Titan level compared to other CrossFire versions, as it is a buyable mutant there.
- Dread is the first mutant to get a new character model, with the Maiden being the second. Dread is also the only mutant to be completely replaced with new model instead of received another variant like the Maiden.
- In some CrossFire versions like West or Russia, although these versions have updated the new Dread, but still use the arms texture of the old one, but the gloves is the new one. This haven't been fixed yet.
